North Carolina ranks 41st nationally on Long-Term Services and Supports, reflecting the fragmented system of care that many residents in WNC and across the state face when seeking help.
In this episode, we discuss the No Wrong Door (NWD) framework and how North Carolina is using it as a roadmap - although not yet a fully built system - to better coordinate services statewide, including in Western North Carolina, using the 4 NWD strategy areas:
A Governing Body
Public outreach
Person-centered counseling
Streamlined access to services
Join us as we speak with longtime NWD consultant, Christina Neill Bowen, Catherine Zontine of the Lewin Group, and North Carolina’s current NWD grant program manager, Taylor Paré, about what No Wrong Door is, the crucial work of our Area Agencies on Aging and those coordinating care, and what our state can look to moving forward.
Interested in getting involved? Partners and providers across North Carolina are encouraged to explore referral pathways and partnerships in their region and connect with the NWD team to share insights, identify gaps, and learn more about participating in the Governing Body or broader No Wrong Door efforts. Learn more at nwd.acl.gov or email Taylor Paré (tpare@unca.edu).
To learn more about a different initiative with the same name as the federal framework that is active in WNC, “No Wrong Door for Support and Recovery” is a program in Macon County, NC offering services to support persons who are transitioning from detention or treatment facilities, provides community based peer support, family support groups, one on support for those who struggle with substance use and/or mental health issues.
